Pretty Magnolia Bakery & Zara Sweets & A Nice Reminder of Home

Magnolia Bakery has a special little place in my heart, not even because of the adorable sweetness that is the aura of the small bakery, but because I have a distinct memory that always comes to mind. When I was living in New York a few years ago during my intern days at Vogue, I remember feeling homesick and wanting to see my family. My sister and her husband came to visit, stayed in my small apartment in Times Square on 47th between 8th and 9th avenue, and one of the many, many things we did was make a stop to the iconic bakery in Greenwich Village (my first time too), and we each picked out a favorite and split them in half so we could just try the different flavors and we sat and talked and I just had this feeling of happiness thinking how lucky I was to have my family and it instilled in my mind, no matter how far away I am, my family and friends back home will always be there. With my move back to New York this Monday, this thought will definitely be fresh in my mind. Here are a few photos I took a couple of weeks ago during my visit of the new bakery by Rockefeller Center and others that made me smile. I guess I just feel like pretty spring pastels pair well with cupcakes, hence the lovely palette in the styles from Zara below : )

CANNES Report 2012

I have to say, there are so many award shows year round where celebrities and those alike get all dressed up in their very best from stunning designer collections. Each time I see these lovely new looks that go down the red carpet, I feel inspired and reminded why I love the industry I am in. There is so much passion, beauty, and creativity behind every design and they are truly brought to life once they are worn. The Cannes film festival in beautiful Cannes, France is my favorite event of the year to be inspired by the stunning looks designers have created. There is something no natural and very real about how celebrities wear the looks. It probably has something to do with the fact there is less tension because there isn’t a small gold statue award on their minds, but also, how could you not feel relaxed with the beautiful ocean and charming villas as the backdrop to enjoy in soak in. It just seems for this festival, celebrities wear what they truly want and feel beautiful in and not try to fit into a certain mold or look that is expected, they dress for themselves. Here are my favorite looks from the festival that left me inspired and in awe.

A Day in the Sun

There is nothing quite like being able to wake up and have a nice long breakfast and coffee while letting your feet cool off in the pool, sitting in the sunshine with family and friends. This past weekend was the perfect way to spend my last weekend in the midwest before moving back to New York. It was the perfect way to soak in the sun and water and family time.

Happy Summer Weekend *

This is a fantastic weekend because being the official kick off to summer, I am officially in the summer mood. There is nothing quite like long sunny days, a more carefree feeling, iced and smoothie drinks, sandals, time by the water, and time with friends and family relaxing in the sun or on the deck outside. Here are some photos from years past and present that make me think summer and bring back those memories from summers past that make me smile and ready from summers to come. * This weekend I am looking forward to taking a trip to St. Louis, spending the weekend with extended family and watching my uncle throw the first pitch at the Cardinals game for being an amazing surgeon. Here’s to more memories to come!

Featured * Floral Cotton

I would like to share with you all a company that is very unique and refreshing in terms of floral design. If you have been following for a while, you will know my mom owns Floral Accents, a floral design company, and so I already have a love of flowers and using their beauty to make beautifful designs and watch my mom as she creates her magic. This company I want to introduce you to is a company out of Waldorf, Maryland that primarily works a lot in the south, but of course the trend is expanding and moving to the midwest and Rocky Mountain states. The company is Floral Cotton. They produce their own cotton with third generation cotton farmers within the company. All of the cotton bolls are cleaned by hand so they are perfect and fluffy and ready for production. You may have seen their work in Southern Wedding Magazine. They work with different floral designers in the area to create simply lovely and truly unique arrangements from bouquets, to boutineers, and more.

With wedding season reaching it’s peak in the late spring, early summer months, the company is staying busy. Just one look at the designs using the cotton and I instantly think of a charming and simply gorgeous southern wedding. Take a peak at some of the photos below of some of the designs, they are truly unique and lovely. You can also find them on facebook here http://www.facebook.com/#!/Soft.Natural.Beautiful and on their website here http://www.floralcotton.com/  I hope you enjoy the pretties! Floral design by Wildflowers by Design and Petal’s Edge Floral Design.

Dress Up Inspiration *

It is so easy to get lost in the shops on 5th avenue in New York City. There is so much inspiration behind all of the designs, whether it has to do with pattern, silhouette, color, or story. Of course my favorite places to stop are Sax Fifth, BCBG, and Bergdorf Goodman to view the stunning gowns. Just because I don’t have anywhere to wear them, doesn’t mean it’s not fun to look and be inspired. Here are some photos that inspired me through color, design, silhouette, and just simply the feeling you get holding a stunning gown up to yourself in the mirror. I guess it’s because it’s not something you wear all the time, sometimes it’s fun to be out of the ordinary.

A Morning in Bryant Park

Something I love about New York City are the little spots in the city where you can go to get away from the hustle and bustle and sit and relax. Don’t get me wrong, the energy of the city is also something I absolutely love as well, but like anything, you have to find time to relax and feel at peace to re-energize for what the day brings or has brought. Bryant Park and Central Park are my two main go-to spots in the city to relax and get in some nature time that makes me happy. This past week on my visit to the city before my move back to the big apple in a few weeks, I decided to walk to Bryant Park for a simple and delicious breakfast and explore the area. Even though it is nothing new to me, it is always a nice spot to relax.

Get “Carried Away” A Few Little Bright Smiles…

I think in each of our personalities, there are certain things we see that just make us say “OoO that’s me, I love it,” and that simple image can put a smile our face. Just like the term “Get Carried Away,” was the perfect line for Carrie Bradshaw with her free floating, fun, and hopeless romantic personality. It’s amazing how images that stick in our minds of things we like can be so small in comparison to what is going on in our everyday lives, but if all of these little smiles add up, it can make for a pretty great day. Sometimes it only takes one of these images that we see to brighten our day. Here are a few this past week that made me smile.

Sunny Days

As I’ve mentioned before, I take my camera with me everywhere. This is always true, because there are always beautiful images or moments to capture. I’ve found it’s these images that bring back memories and give us that warm fuzzy feeling, the same one we felt in that moment. Here are pictures from the past couple weeks that made me smile in the moment, and still do when I look at them.

Vacation Inspiration *

I am spending the day searching for inspiration for the June issue with Her magazine Kansas City http://herkansascity.com/home and the pieces I will be searching for already have me in the mindset of a vacation. There is nothing quite like the feeling of waking up slowly but early enough to get a full day starting off with maybe some juice and coffee and something to eat a little different from the everyday routine at home. Whenever I go on vacation I like to have the perfect mix of relaxation, excitement, and trying new things. Trying new things is something I enjoy the most on vacation actually. Variety in life in my opinion keeps things spicy and fun. Since I will be finding inspiration today for the shoot, and the fact that I am in the vacation mind-set for pulling pieces, here are some photos I’ve taken that inspire me and make me happy just looking at them. Even though I may not be enjoying a beach vacation today, I’m going to find a fun treat for lunch at a nice cafe or shop just to treat myself to something different. Give it a try yourself! It might make all the difference if you need a little pep in your step on this Tuesday * Cheers

Stunning Table Sets 2012 DIFFA

Each year, my family and I like to attend an event called DIFFA. It stands for Design Industry Foundation Fighting Aids. The proceeds go to the foundation, and it is a wonderful evening full of inspiration, delicious little bites and drinks, good music, and great conversation. The amount of detail that goes into each table is just breath-taking. So many ideas pop up from viewing these tables for different party ideas, which always come in handy. Here are some photos from the night *

The Little Things

There are so many things in life that make us smile, but it seems to me, the things that make us feel most happy and complete are the little things in life. It can be so much as taking a walk and stopping to smell a rose bush, turning off all electronics and having breakfast and coffee outside on the patio on a morning with beautiful weather and bright sunshine peeking through, walking around a new area you find beautiful, or just relaxing on a blanket in the grass at the park after a long day. Even though these things might not be significant, I always seem to remember my favorite moments in these little things. Here are some pictures from the week or me out enjoying those little things.

Dean & Deluca and a Sun Filled Weekend Day

I love those days when you don’t have any plans and you can make them up as you go. The camera man and I decided to take Daffy & Lilly, my adorable corgi mixes on a trip to Dean & Deluca followed by the park and then my parents house. It was a perfect combination to make a day of relaxation. Here are just a few photos from the day. I hope you’re all having a great and relaxing weekend.

Profiling Panache Chocolatier

There is something about visiting a chocolatier, whether it is on a day of with a friend or loved one just for a little treat while walking around, or on a day when you just need a little pick me up for a little treat. There is just a certain charm about chocolatiers, which is why I believe they are so successful, when you could really just go right down the street and get yourself a little treat. Something that makes me appreciate the little chocolate treats are all of the details and preciseness involved in the process. They are similar to wedding cakes in my mind in that it almost doesn’t seem like food, but more like art, which I always appreciate. Pananche is a local chocolatier in Kansas City on the Country Club Plaza and the charm is definitely there, with a quaint little shop on a tree-lined and beautiful store lined streets, lovely bright decor, outdoor seating as well as a few chairs inside to sit at, choices of coffee and tea, and delicious delicate little chocolates. I stopped in this past weekend, and being Easter weekend there were spring treats and decor all around.

I love you Easter eggs, Love Daffy

Last year was my first Easter with Daffy and Lilly, my two little corgi mixes. Little did I know Daffy would have such an affection for the Easter eggs my parents set up for my sisters and I. Yes, all of us are above the age of 22 and we still Easter egg hunt…I know, but the competition for the most eggs gets pretty serious. Since Easter is tomorrow, I thought I’d share a few pictures of Daffy and her newly found love of Easter eggs from last year. Can’t wait to her with her beloved Easter eggs again tomorrow. Lilly didn’t care for them as much, she was more into relaxing in the sun.  : )

Easy Spring Mornings

One of my favorite things to do on a nice day is wake up early and walk around any charming area, depending on where I am, order a coffee and breakfast from a cafe so I can have my dogs with me and sit outside. Of course, being accompanied by my camera man, a sister or other family member, or friend is always nice, but sometimes it’s even nice on my own to just relax and reflect and after coffee explore and window shop. One of my favorite stores to do that with of course is Anthropologie, I can’t get enough of the delicious smelling candles, warm shabby chic atmosphere, and lovely feminine dresses and clothes. These are just a few photos from a morning a few days ago I was able to walk around with Daffy & Lilly, grab a coffee, sit outside, and enjoy the weather and the sights. After all, the little things really are what make us the happiest sometimes. Especially compared to those mornings that are anything but relaxing with our to do lists, it’s nice to just sit and enjoy. : )

* April 2012 *

                                     * Brights *

I am one of the ones loving the neon trend that has been so big for spring. The colors are just so refreshing and instantly not only brightens your wardrobe, but your mood. With colors so bright and fun, it’s hard not to lift your mood. I love pairing a neon piece with a neutral, such as white or tan, or with a complimentary color. For this top I instantly saw it with blue or white so I decided to pair it with a skirt that has both of those colors. Also, blue and yellow is another one of my favorite color combinations. It’s like the sun meeting the ocean : )

Top: H&M (new), Skirt: Old Navy (new, on sale), Sunglasses: Francesca’s (new), Necklace: Marc Jacobs (old, gifted from Vogue closet- intern days), Shoes: Target (last year, can find similar this year)

                            * Sunny Polka Dots *

Something about polka dots just remind me of a playful summer, spending time out in the sun, drinking some orange juice, and having fun. I love mixing colors on the color wheel, so when I found this dress I instantly thought of pairing it with orange. This is the perfect lightweight and comfortable dress to enjoy a picnic on a sunny mild day or maybe going out for brunch with friends.

 Dress: Old Navy (new, on sale), Belt: (mine from an orange dress), Necklace: Charming Charlie’s (new a couple months ago), Shoes: Me Too for DSW (new), Watch: Michael Kors (last year, can find similar this year)

                                       * Strawberry Lemonade *

As soon as I found this dress, I instantly saw it paired with yellow, preferably neon yellow because the hot pink is so vibrant. This is the perfect comfortable and feminine dress to enjoy an afternoon of brunch and walking around or to take with ou on vacation for the fun element that I always like incorporating in my suitcase for my vacation wardrobe. Something else I love about this dress are the subtle pleats. The are small enough to make the perfect slight element of movement in the dress on top of the fact that pleats are right on trend for spring 2012.

Dress: Old Navy (new on sale), Necklace: Forever 21 (new), Sunglasses: Francesca’s (new), Yellow Over-throw: Arden B (old), Floral Jacket: Francesca’s (last year), Shoes: Target (last year, can find similar this year)

                               * Featuring Katie May, Los Angeles * In Bloom

I am so happy to share the Mandy dress, the second featured dress from the 2012 Spring collection from Katie May, Los Angeles http://www.katiemay.net/. This dress is perfect for spring with the breezy rayon fabric incorporated into this design. It just says vacation to me. I could see this dress at a nice dinner on the beach on an exotic vacation, a reception on Casa Del Camino’s rooftop in Laguna Beach, or in an atmosphere surrounded by spring flowers and blooms. Ultimately, I wanted to incorporate the lovely blooms of spring with these photos, and give the dress a soft and feminine feel. For a dressy occasion with a little more of an edge, this dress also comes in black.

                                 * Featuring Katie May, Los Angeles * Enchanted Evening

There are certain things about fashion that make us smile and take us to a place out of the ordinary. Exquisite gowns usually do that for me, or lovely feminine dresses and tops that give off this feeling of romance and bliss. I am very happy to feature two dresses from the Katie May, Los Angeles 2012 Spring collection for my first April post. the first dress below, as well as another one that will be posted on Tuesday, were two out of the collection that instantly caught my eye. I saw so many different things for these two dresses in terms of themes and pairings, but what it came down to was really being in nature and using different elements and backgrounds that really complimented these dresses and what I saw when I looked at them. The entire spring collection is incredibly feminine and lovely and I am excited to share two of my favorite looks with you all for today and tomorrow.Here is the website http://www.katiemay.net/ The dress featured is the Carly dress in plum. The lovely and delicious macarons are from Natasha’s Mulberry & Mott Patisserie.

MyStyleLoft.com Anniversary * Happy Six Months

I am so happy to share the six month anniversary of mystyleloft.com with you all. Mystyleloft.com is a way for me to share my creative writing, photography, fashion styling, food adventures with some recipes thrown in every so often, travel adventures, and photos from the weddings I assist Floral Accents with. I have enjoyed so much sharing all of these things with my wonderful readers and followers and look forward to  sharing more of what I am passionate about in the future on mystyleloft.com.

It is amazing how much beauty truly is around us, and it is the beauty in the world in which we all need to be reminded of sometimes, that is the constant source of  inspiration behind the photos I enjoy taking, and also the way I invision style by finding ways to incorporate the beauty I see around me into a fashion sense. After all, life and fashion always have a place to connect when talking about style.

One of my favorite color combinations to wear is blue and coral or pink. The reason being, is it reminds me of a floral lined coastline with the sparkling blue ocean in the background. After all, style is not just about the clothes, it is the inspiration behind the designs, the passion, the culture, a way of showing our personality, creating beauty, and giving us a sense of what makes us feel the way we do when sharing our personal style.

Six months ago when I was trying to figure out what to name my blog, I was trying to think of a name that described all of the things I mentioned above. I wanted my name to reflect the way I feel about style, and how it is more a lifestyle than the just the clothes we wear. I was thinking about when I first moved to New York City for the first time and I was searching for apartments with my mom. This specific one we went into, was near Union Square in the city and we were warmly greeted by the owner, who was a very kind older woman who showed us a bright and very spacious loft with white walls and tons of windows. It was exactly what I pictured a New York City loft to look like. The great thing about this apartment is that this woman was an artist, so not only were the walls clean and pretty with tons of exposed light, but there were beautiful paintings on the walls and green plants all over. Plants I feel add so much to a space, adding the element of freshness and color.

I will always have this clear image in my mind of this apartment that my mom and I went to visit, because it was so beautiful to me and somewhat like a serene indoor oasis to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. For some reason this image kept coming into my mind when I was trying to think of a name for my blog and mystyleloft hit me, because I had this image in my mind of all the things that inspire me in one dream loft. Mystyleloft.com is kind of like the loft, in the fact that I’m sharing all the things that inspire me in one place.

Funny thing is, I actually ended up in an amazing, but completely opposite of serene apartment in Times Square on 47th st between 8th and 9th avenue above a brazilian restaraunt with a serenading doorman. Now this apartment was a great size for New York, but I shared it with two other roommates, so it was definitely not luxury living by any means, in fact it was complete chaos, but it was exactly what I wanted for my adventure so it was perfect.

I can’t wait to share more inspiration with you all, and thank you for following.

Lindsay

Rainy Day Pretty

Everyday this week has been rainy, but it’s actually a great thing. It is making everything so green and lush outside. After the second day, I was ready for the rain to go away, and when I didn’t I actually started to embrace it. After all, there is nothing like a rainy night where you can stay inside, enjoy a good movie, and drink some yummy tea. Will & Grace was actually my choice to watch last night, and I had forgotten how much I love the show. It reminds me of my best friend Joee (modern-day Jack) and I. Anyways, here are some photos I took yesterday in between the rain storms that made me smile.

A Story of Pink & Blue * When the Sunset Meets the Ocean

I have to say that I am one of those people who is instantly drawn to color. I love a clean neutral palate as well, but whenever I see a design I like in a color I love it instantly grabs me. One of my favorite color combinations is pink and blue. Pink and green are so similar to me, that this color combination falls in the same category. Whenever I see the two colors together, it just makes me think of a pink sunset with a blue ocean in the background. That’s just always what comes to mind for me when I see the two colors together, so naturally, it makes me happy and I love finding new ways to incorporate the two colors together. Once again, when it comes to pink and green, it’s pretty much the same thing in my mind. After all, the ocean has shades of green and blue, especially depending on how the sun hits it. All of the designer looks below are available now *

Cherry Blossom Romance

One of my favorite times to be in New York City is in the spring, simply because of walking through Central Park with all of the gorgeous cherry blossom trees and the way they are landscaped throughout the park with all of the other tulips and spring flowers that are starting to bloom. There is a feeling of romance, just being surrounded by all of the incredible beauty in a serene area with nature and having the energizing city in the background. You definitely do not have to be in New York City to enjoy the blossoms of spring, however, and that is evident just simply being around them. I wanted to just find a few images from the Spring 2012 Couture shows, because they help explain through beautiful gowns the feelings given off from these beautiful blossoms.

I took this photo in beautiful Central Park, all others courtesy of style.com

Seeing Spring * A Day at the Park

There is nothing like the first sightings of spring, when the leaves on the trees start to bud, the grass starts getting a little greener, the park is full of people enjoying a picnic, a jog, maybe kite flying, or walking their dogs. The one thing that absolutely captivates me always, is when the leaves on the trees start to bud. There is just nothing like a bunch of trees full of little flowers. I was happy to discover as I was at the park yesterday with my little ones, to see so many trees beginning to bud. Cheers to spring *

* Hello Yellow *

A couple of  weeks ago I shared my favorite color trend found here  http://morestyleloft.com/2012/02/23/seafoam-favorite-color-trend-spring-2012/   When it comes to spring colors, it is hard for me to choose a favorite color trend because every color inspires me in different ways. Yellow is another color I am so excited to start wearing for spring. It instantly lifts my mood when I put on a yellow dress or blouse. It just makes me think of sunshine, lemons, spring flowers, and other images of spring that make me smile. Here are some of my favorite picks from the runway on shopping online as well as a little inspiration.

Polka dots are always fun for spring, usually you will see them with navy, white, yellow, and other fun colors for the season. When I saw this top, I thought it was perfect because it would work great in the fall and winter, paired with a black blazer, so it could work in my closet for all of the seasons. Since the sleeve length is shorter, that makes it perfect for spring, so to really make it fit into the season I added some color with my necklace and paired it with this brilliant seafoam color.

Top: Forever 21 (new), Skirt: Forever 21 (new), Necklace: Francesca’s Collections (new)

                                    * Mediterranean Dreams *

As soon as I saw this skirt, I instantly thought of pairing it with a soft and feminine white blouse. I wanted the look to be fresh and vibrant, just like the Mediterranean. Something about the color and the movement in the skirt makes me think of dancing near the ocean or walking along the beach on a beautiful evening, and what better place to do it than the Mediterranean with brilliant colors and a beautiful blue ocean. Like I’ve always believed, fashion is all about where life and style meet. This outfit proves that point because as soon as I put it on I’m ready to be somewhere with a floral lined coastline and the beautiful ocean in the background…preferably with some steel drums in the background to complete the feeling of being on the beach. Lastly I paired the skirt and top with a lovely neon yellow necklace to really make the outfit pop.

Skirt: Forever 21 (new), Blouse: Forever 21 (new), Necklace: Forever 21 (new), Shoes: Target (last year, can find similar this year), Watch: Michael Kors (last year, can find similar this year), Bracelet: Found at a kiosk near the beach : )

                                          * Fun with Fashion *

 I was pleasantly surprised when I found this skirt. After looking at the Spring 2012 runway shows, I was hoping to find a fun colorful dress or skirt with more than a couple fun color trends of the season and I sure did. One of my favorite collections from the runway shows is from Nanette Lepore. All of the pieces are so colorful and have fun silhouettes and designs. Nanette’s collection was my inspiration for this skirt. My favorite way to pair it is with this navy jacket and it’s fun incorporating the neon pink on the top as well for a fun spring look.

Skirt: Old Navy (new, on sale), Jacket: Forever 21 (new), Tank: Gap (new), Bracelet: Arden B (old), Shoes: Target (last year, can find similar this year), Watch: Michael Kors (last year, can find similar this year)                                              * Brighten the Day *

It’s amazing how wearing a pop of color can instantly brighten your look as well as your mood. The dress featured is perfect for early spring with the sleeve length and bright citron color. I could see this dress going from work to cocktails or brunch with friends. Versatility is always nice to have in your wardrobe, because after all,our lives are never consistent.

Dress: Old Navy (new), Necklace: Francesca’s (new), Hat: Forever 21 (new), Belt: Arden B (old), Shoes: Target (last year, can find similar this year), Watch: Michael Kors (last year, can find similar this year)                                           * Easy Sunday *

I happen to be one of those people who loves Sundays. I always feel more relaxed and all I want to do is hang out with my little dogs, family, friends, my camera man, and just enjoy the day. My favorite kind of Sundays are the ones without plans and the day is up for whatever. Yesterday was one of those days for me and it was lovely. The weather was beautiful, camera man and I decided to take the dogs and have breakfast and coffee at a coffeehouse with a patio. The afternoon was spent at the park walking around and just relaxing on a blanket in the grass with all of the other park- goers. It was definitely a packed day at the park, easy to see as the weather was lovely. After that I had a nice jog and make the trip to Whole Foods & Trader Joes for some things to last me the next week or so I’ve been needing. Days like these are very simple, but very wonderful.

I decided to wear a new casual outfit I picked up so I could share it with you all. So for those days you’re not relaxing in yoga pants, this is a great alternative.

 Top: Old Navy (new), Skirt : Old Navy (new), Necklace: Forever 21 (new), Sandals: Kelly & Katie (last year- can find similar this year), Watch : Michael Kors (last year- can find similar this year)

                                                * Spring in Bloom *

When I found this skirt a couple of weeks ago I instantly saw it with a gold knit sweater. I just had a vision this glamorous beachy look paired with some sort of seashell necklace, so that is exactly what I did. Ideally there would be an ocean in the background of these photos and I would be maybe standing on some rocks to go with the earthy metallic colors in this outfit. Since I’m not, I decided to incorporate all of the lovely blossoms on the trees that are popping up everywhere that make me so happy, and I have to say, I don’t think you could ever go wrong next to a beautiful tree in bloom, so it all worked out : )

Skirt: Old Navy (new on sale), Tank: NY & Co. (last year), Gold Sweater: Target (last year, can find similar JLO collection for Kohl’s), Necklaces:  Long- Francesca’s (new), Short- Arden B (old), Watch: Michael Kors (last year- can find similar still), Shoes: Target (last year, similar this year)

                                          * In Between Seasons *

I wanted to post another in between seasons look because yesturday was beautiful outside with sunshine and warmer temps, but after today the temperature is supposed to drop significantly again and I’m not quite ready to break out all of my sundresses  and cork sandals just quite yet. Ok, I have worn a few already, actually I did yesturday with the lovely weather, but it’s nice to have those pieces in your closet you can go to when the weather is being kind of funny.

 Skirt: White House Black Market (new, on sale), Jacket: Candies (new), Belt: Limited (last year), Bracelet: Charming Charlie’s (new), Shoes: Elie Tahari (last year), Watch: Burberry (last year- can still find)

                                      * In Between Seasons *

Ah, March…how I love you. Although I love the thrill and chill of winter when you can get all cozy inside after being out in the snow, and freezing rain, there is something about this time of the year when the excitement of trees beginning to blossom and warmer weather is everywhere. Brighter colors start appearing everywhere, and the thought of heavy winter clothes, even when it’s still a little chilly out, just don’t make the cut.

There is this in between seasons time that happens a couple times a year, most apparent from summer to fall and winter to spring where we have to be a little more conscious of our wardrobe and it’s not as easy to throw on a sundress and sandals or riding boots and winter coat. My rule of thumb, if it’s approaching spring but still a little chilly out, add a pop of color and keep the fabrics lighter. If you are wearing black, which I will be posting later this week, keep if flirty and once again, just not so heavy. For this look I kept my chocolate tights on since it was a little chilly out and added some fun color and metallic pieces to the look.

Jacket: Forever 21 (new), Skirt: Ann Taylor (new on sale), Top: Banana Republic (last year- can find similar), Shoes: Bandolino (new), Bag: Tory Burch (last year-can find similar), Watch: Michael Kors (last year- can find similar), Bangles: Forever 21 (new), Necklace: Francesca’s (last year- can find similar)

Natasha’s Mulberry & Mott Patisserie

I had the lovely pleasure of stopping by Natasha’s Mulberry & Mott, a lovely Patisserie with coffee, macarons, beautiful deserts that are more like artwork, and other yummy treats. The atmosphere is so inviting and cozy and makes you feel as though you’ve stepped into a quaint and charming bakery in Paris. I love the white walls that are shabby chic style with lovely paintings of English roses and others throughout. The ladies were so friendly and we had great conversation for a while before I was able to snap some pictures of the sweet little place. I would highly recommend visiting here if you are in the Kansas City area on the Country Club Plaza. It is attached to Halls on the Plaza on Ward Parkway, with another location in Leawood, KS.

Her magazine March 2012 Issue

I had such a great time pulling pieces for the March 2012 issue with Her magazine. I wanted to find pieces that incorporated how I felt when March rolls around. No matter what the weather outside, once March 1st comes around it is spring in my mind. I was constantly being inspired by the looks I was finding as I searched the city for the best spring fashions. Since neons and other lovely colorful pastels are so big this season, I definitely kept that in mind when pulling my favorite pieces and putting the looks together. When it came to the theme, I came up with ‘Hello Sunshine’ because once March comes around, the warm sun starts to show its face and put a glow on our skin and smiles. I wanted to incorporate some fun and girly props so  I used some I had around and found at nearby craft stores.

Vogue Magazine April Issue

I was absolutely thrilled to be able to be a part of the April 2008 issue with Vogue magazine during my internship days. It was an amazing opportunity to work with world-renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz, stylists Tonne Goodman and Ethel Park, model Doutzen Kroes, and Olympic athlete Apolo Ohno. It was an early morning leaving from the Vogue office at Conde Nast when I rode with fellow intern and stylist Ethel Park in our black town car to the chilly and beautiful ice skate rink at Bear Mountain. Here are some of the photos from the shoot and other days at the Vogue office.

Her Magazine Bridal Issue

I had so much fun as the stylist for Her magazine’s 2012 bridal issue for February. I searched all around the city to find the best of the best wedding gowns and with the help of editor Jessica Marshall and the art director, the final picks were narrowed down to four that I could not be happier with. The details on each of these gowns are exquisite and simply stunning. The photo shoot took place on a sunny afternoon inside the charming and romantic Midland Theatre. Here are some photos from the shoot.

The Official Unofficial First Day of Spring! *

Music Inspiration: Neon Lights by Natasha Bedingfield * Give it a listen, it will make you want to jump like this also  : )

This photo captures how happy warm weather, a sundress, great company, the ocean, and not wearing sandals on the beach makes me feel. Captured by one of my best friends, thanks Katelyn!

I know it is not the official day of spring yet, but something about today being the first day of March, it feels like the first day of spring for me. Yes, it is still a little chilly out, but the seasons have definitely seemed to shift. It is staying lighter outside later, winter pieces are being put aside, and in stores brilliant bright colors and spring inspiration are popping up everywhere with some of my favorite color trends. The reason March makes me so happy I think is because ever since I can remember this is the month that makes me think of vacation. Although this is the first year in a while I am not taking a trip this month, for some reason the feeling is still there. The excitement of getting on a plane with mostly sundresses, sandals, and floppy hats packed after wearing winter clothes is just such a great feeling. I think the culmination of wonderful memories I have had with friends, family, and of course the camera man this time of the month on small adventures just make me happy and get me excited for the start of warm sunshine, patio seating at restaurants, longer days, and sundresses. Sundresses alone make me want to go on vacation, definitely my favorite thing to wear.

Side Note * On March 25th it will be my six month anniversary for MyStyleLoft! On that day I will be sharing how I came up with the name for my blog, it has to do with NYC : )

Almond Butter & Jelly Heart Sandwiches

Well, this is definitely more of a DIY for a cute sandwich idea than a recipe, but I still wanted to share because this is the perfect idea if you want to make a lunch for someone you love. For a guy, maybe just leave off the pink ribbon : ) I was inspired for this idea because I realized how many fun things you can do with cookie cutters for DIY recipes or ideas. Since it’s the last day of national love month, I thought these were appropriate following my heart pancakes idea. It could be for Valentine’s day, a shower, or just because. It’s amazing how much a nice little ribbon can dress up these easy little sandwiches. For a shower, I would definitely recommend the ribbon to dress them up. All you need is a heart cookie cutter, whatever size you chose, almond or peanut butter, jelly, and some ribbon. Enjoy and share love *

Good Morning Smiles * Flowers, Coffee, and Puppies

I decided to dedicate a post of some photos I have not yet shared yet that definitely bring a smile to my face. Sometimes we have those days or mornings when we just need a little pep in our step. It seems whenever I take a look at some photos that remind me of all the beautiful and simple pleasures in life, my day is instantly brightened and I’m ready to tackle all the obstacles that might occur in the day. I hope these photos bring a smile to your face, as they do mine. After all, what better combination than flowers, puppies, and cozy coffee?

2012 Oscars Best Dressed

I love award season because there is so much inspiration and each design is unique and different from the rest. One of the things I love most, always involves color. For the most part, the variety is refreshing. After all, each attendee wants to stand apart from the crowd. I don’t think any of the attendees would like to have a similar gown as the girl next to her. I was very pleased to see all of the feminine silhouettes, fabrics, and colors for this year’s Oscars. I had many favorites, but for some reason the ones that stood out to me the most were in soft pastel colors. Typically the bright colors grab my attention, but point proven, it is all about the design of the gown and who is wearing it that can make it truly beautiful. Below are my top six picks in order from left to right and the runners up in no particular order.

February 2012 *

                                        * Awaiting Spring *

This is the time of the year when it’s almost spring, butstill winter. Depending on location, it can be near sixty degrees on some days, but the trees can still be brown. This can make it a little more challenging for dressing, but I always stick to the rule of thumb to add some color, and on those days when it’s chillier you can stick with opaque tights, but when it starts warming up a little, throw on some slacks and a colorful blouse, or just keep the tights not as opaque to lighten the look. It was a little chillier for these photos, so I stuck with classic black with a splash of color.

As for David, he was a trooper to let me take a few shots of him too : ) He is in a classic vneck sweater with denim, perfect for this in between time of the year. You can find both mine and David’s looks in stores now. Outfit information below

 Jacket: Lauren Conrad collection for Kohl’s, Skirt: Elle  magazine for Kohl’s, Shirt: Forever 21, Bangle: Charming Charlie’s, Necklace: Francesca’s, Shoes: Elie Tahari, Watch: Burberry Sweater: H&M, White tee: H&M, Jeans: Express

                                           * Share Love *

Since it’s February and the month of national love day, I thought I would share an outfit that fits into the celebration of the special day on this month. I absolutely love this Vera Wang for Kohl’s jacket. The assymetrical lines make it interesting and the fabric is perfect for those not quite cold, but not quite warm days where you need just another light layer. Find the dress and the jacket in stores now *

Dress: Francesca’s, Jacket: Vera Wang for Kohl’s, Boots: Elie Tahari, Necklace: Halls department store, Belt: Express

Seafoam * Favorite Color Trend Spring 2012

I am so excited to see one of my favorite colors, seafoam green or mint appear everywhere this spring season. It is popping up on the runway, in home decor, in retail stores, on nail polish, and so much more. It is one of those colors that instantly brings a smile to my face, simply because it reminds me of the ocean. There is nothing better than stepping into a chiffon seafoam dress in warm weather because no matter where I am, it makes me feel as though I am walking along the beach with views of calming neutrals and vibrant greens and blues. The color can also be interpreted into a very chic, preppy look, depending on how it is styled. A great example of this, is the Alice + Olivia and Dolce & Gabbana runway looks below. After all, it is the famed color of the ever stylish and classic Tiffany & Co.

Below you will find runway inspiration, photo inspiration, and looks you can find in stores now

The French Laundry * Napa Valley

This past weekend, after my sister’s baby shower as we were all relaxing, I was thumbing through my mom’s photos and came across these. Now, I have not been to the French Laundry, but after viewing these photos, it is definitely at the top of my list. The chef I learned decided to open his restaurant in Napa Valley because it reminded him of the countryside of France. I just wanted to share these photos because they inspired me. I hope they inspire you as well.
